That Plus Gallery artist Jenny Morgan will have her first exposure in a museum context later this fall in a group exhibition being hosted at the Jacksonville, Florida Museum of Contemporary Art. More details on that and other developments in Morgan's career surely to follow later this year.

ADDITIONAL NEWS OF NOTE

Allie Pohl's recent "Peacocking" sculptures will debut next week at Galerie 102 in Ojai, California, in the two person exhibition "Peacocks in Flight" opening March 8th.  The gallery will host a reception for the artists on Saturday March 8th from 4-6pm.

Pohl was also recently featured in the Winter issue of the Hamilton Alumni Review, under the headline "Young Entrepreneurs turn risk into reward.  Go Allie!

Kathryn Wingard reports on the recently opened NCECA Ceramic Arts Invitational now taking place at the Milwaukee Art Museum and featuring Plus Gallery artist Tsehai Johnson's "Swarm" as well as works by other top ceramic artists in the field.

The McNichols Civic Center hosts the 25th Anniversary of Open Press Studios with an exhibition featuring a number of notable local and national artists, including Plus Gallery veterans Dave Yust and Doris Laughton Smith. The exhibition opens with a reception this Friday, February 28th from 5:30-8pm and will remain on view through April 12th.

Monkeytown 4 commences tomorrow evening and will continue for a three-month run at 3545 Larimer St., offering an absolutely unique dining/art experience for the first time ever outside of NYC.  We plan on being amongst the first to check it out and will report back with more later.

We recently received word that Plus Gallery artist Jenny Morgan will have her first exposure in a national contemporary art museum.  Details will likely be withheld till later this year, but it's true and about time!

Plus Gallery will be closed from March 2nd through March 13th.  We will reopen on the evening of March 13th with the reception for the collaborative exhibition "Transitional Fragments" by Denver artists Chris Coleman and Laleh Mehran.

 If you've stopped by Plus Gallery to view our current exhibition and have asked yourself (or us) why are there walls made of moss, leaves of latex and extraordinarily detailed paintings filled with ruins underneath battle-plan diagrams and complex patterns with glistening swimmers floating throughout? Find out the answers this February 7th during extended opening hours in conjunction with First Friday when Plus Gallery hosts an informal discussion with featured artist Melissa Furness for her wonderful solo exhibition "Romantic Overgrowth."

Afterwards we encourage everyone to visit our newest neighbor and fine-dining experience "Work and Class" which just opened up across the street from Plus Gallery in the new storage container building. Our initial report is that another terrific gem has taken shape on our block, offering an exquisite intimate setting with terrific food to match. Their menu allows for three different portion sizes for meat options and a terrific list of small plates, apps, soups, salads and breads, which means you can expand your belly proportional to the size that you'd like your bank account to shrink.  The dessert menu couldn't be better, and a special kid menu offers an educational experience accompanied by crayons, topped by delicious cinnamon ice-cream. Happy hour is from 4-6pm with limited but delectable options, and of course after happy hour one might choose to move up and try a "Sixth Glass" from Boulevard Brewery, absolutely one of the best beers in the world right now. Monkey Town is the brainchild of founder Montgomery Knott who has curated the films in partnership with MCA Denver, Denver Digerati and Ivar Zeile at Plus Gallery, and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art.

History of Monkey Town

The original Monkey Town ran from May 2003 - December 2004. It was located in a private loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Emphasis was on video art showcasing works by Miranda July, Mika Rottenberg, and Golan Levin among dozens of other artists who were just emerging and flying under the radar at that time. They also hosted live music shows from Black Dice, White Magic, Dead Texan, My Best Fiend, Sayyid and Priest (Anit-Pop Consortium) and Blood on the Wall. Same set up: 4 projection screens and food. Chefs moonlighted from jobs at Gramercy Tavern, Esca and Chanterelle. There were 99 performances over 19 months.

The second Monkey Town ran from October 2005 - January 2010. It was located at 58 N. 3rd St in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Open nightly for 4 years and 4 months, a front dining room and bar were added, while the back dining room continued the original layout  -  4 screens; communal seating; 6.1 surround sound; capacity of 50. A full menu was available every night. The back space showcased video art, short films, feature-length films and documentaries; as well as live music, dance and other performance. Damo Suzuki, Sharon Van Etten, Tony Conrad, Gang Gang Dance, White Magic, The XX, Dirty Projectors, Twin Shadow and Excepter's legendary marathon shows were all illuminated in the cube, while a slew of talented filmmakers tested and stretched the margins of new cinema; including, Ryan Trecartin, Shana Moulton, R. Luke DuBois, Alexandre Singh, Cory Arcangel, Marisa Olson, Peter Burr, Michael Bell-Smith, Bruce Bickford, Tony Oursler, Forcefield, and Claude Wampler.
