JENNY MORGAN SLATED FOR IMPORTANT GROUP EXHIBITION IN APRIL AT POSTMASTERS, NY

Postmasters Gallery in Chelsea has selected Plus Gallery artist Jenny Morgan for inclusion in their upcoming April group exhibition "Mirror Mirror" with a focus on portraiture.  Though Jenny has been included in numerous group shows since moving to NY in 2006, this is one of the major breakthrough's we've predicted would happen upon the strength of her recent works.  Postmasters is one of the prestige galleries in Chelsea with tremendous depth of international contemporary talent geared primarily towards high-end collectors of contemporary art.  We'll have more information regarding the exhibition soon, as well as images of her new works slated for this exhibition as the opening date nears.

R. JUSTIN STEWART IN A RASH OF NEW EXHIBITIONS COMING UP

Plus Gallery's R. Justin Stewart, another rising star on the national scene, will be included in several upcoming exhibitions this spring throughout the United States, including a major solo exhibition at the Mesa Art Center in Arizona.  Here's a snapshot of what's in store for the artist:

Solo Exhibition "2am-2pm" at Mesa Art Center in Mesa, AZ

"2am-2pm investigate the ramifications of trying to engage with a complex or simplistic world.  We are constantly flooded with an abundance of visual information that surpasses our capacity to comprehend it. In order to function, we filter the visual information by abstracting, abbreviating, and categorizing. Transit systems assist riders by providing simplified tools for engaging with the infrastructure; complex routes are reduced to basic maps and the thousands of scheduled stops are organized into navigable matrices. 2am-2pm removes these filters and presents a three-dimensional model of the Sunday Minneapolis / St. Paul public transit system, where the horizontal axes represent directional movement and the vertical represents time. The piece is constructed of 47 horizontal layers, each forming a map of the bus routes that run during a given interval of time. Looking down from the top, one sees the Sunday bus map of the Twin Cities, while looking from the side, the times appears as strata building upwards. Within each layer, every transit route that operates at that time is represented by wood balls placed at its scheduled stops. The piece is suspended by 300 blue threads, allowing the structure to be visible from all angles."

YOU WON'T FIND A MORE UNUSUAL TAKE ON OBAMA THAN THESE LTD. EDITION POSTERS BY DANIELLE ZIMMERMAN

Danielle Zimmerman, the German artist who was featured in our excellent intern-curated exhibition "Vis-a-visage" a couple years back at Object + Thought, has sent us three of the most intriguing and potentially collectible limited edition posters we've ever come across.  Her rendition of our president as an infant in poses based on renaissance paintings by Bellini, Crivelli and the master of Flemalle: mother mary with jesus, are downright spectacular, the originals made on her trademark plasticbags right after the election. According to Zimmerman, "I hope as everybody else, that Obama will do the best, but at the same time I have my doubts, that somebody who gets that far - after Bush - is more than a puppet."

We think these are gems and currently very inexpensive, anyone interested in acquiring them can come by Plus Gallery to discuss.

Plus Gallery is proud to be part of this year's "Doors Open Denver" city tour, with its focus on buildings with a second life.  Here is some information regarding the tour, it's sure to be terrific and a great way to spend a weekend in April:

Doors Open Denver is a FREE 2-day event celebrating architecture and design. 2010 is the sixth year of this free, city-wide annual weekend event celebrating Denver's built environment and this year's theme is "Denver ReDux/Denver ReDo: Buildings With a Second Life." The event is designed to create access, awareness and excitement about adaptive reuse and good design by welcoming a wide audience into distinctive examples of architecture, engineering and design, both historic and modern. At the same time, it is an opportunity to invite Denver residents, as well as people from around the region, to come see what Denver has to offer and celebrate the city. 

Approximately 80 sites (including ours!) are participating during the event weekend, April 17-18. There are several ways to enjoy Doors Open Denver:

Self-Guided Tours
You may begin your self-guided tour at any participating Doors Open Denver location. Stop by Event Headquarters (Union Station) to speak with event staff for recommendations. The free program guide, distributed the week before the event, contains descriptions of participating sites and a map to help you plan your visits. You may visit sites on your own, in any order, throughout the event weekend.

Expert Tours
Expert Tours are walking tours led by volunteer tour guides. No admission fee is required, however participants must pre-register at Event Headquarters (Union Station) on the tour day to reserve a place. Tours have limited capacity but many tours are offered more than once. Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis

Urban Adventures 
Having a hard time trying to decide which buildings to visit? Take an Urban Adventure, with suggested self-guided tours inside the guide.

Event Headquarters

Thursday's Plus Gallery forecast: Cloudy with a chance of great art

This is the year for experimentation at Plus Gallery, and what better way to prove it than with a new solo exhibition by the Director of the "Institute for Experimental Studies" at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, the extraordinary Bruce Price.  The artist returns to Plus Gallery for the fourth time with "I am a cloud," a new body of work culled from an intense exploration into abstract painting.  Featuring a selection of this prolific painter's recent works, the exhibition also introduces a dynamic element in which two of the four gallery walls will be re-installed each week according to the desires of a guest curator working from a large array of experimental small-scale works on canvas. The initial installation will be performed by Singer Gallery director Simon Zalkind, with others to follow each week as announced on our gallery newsletter and facebook page.

Following an opening reception this Thursday, March 4th from 6-8pm, the gallery will host a gathering on each successive Wednesday evening from 6-7pm for patrons to engage with the new view and listen to Bruce play the viola, followed by tea.  Guests who support the most viewings of each installation will be eligible to be selected as the final guest curator for the last week of the show, to be determined by random drawing or by the most convincing argument submitted to the gallery to support one's desire or credentials to participate.

Join us this Thursday to commence activities and support one of the region's most honest and relevant contemporary artists.  The evening also marks the first anniversary in our new space, we look forward to celebrating another milestone as a critical component for Denver contemporary art.
