perform as part of modulation(s) : a series of audio visual adaptations sponsored by object+thought.
andrew blanton will perform mar'aj for percussion with quadraphonic audio alongside the live max msp driven visuals of sonic memory : the nature of altered and over-written thoughts by other events.
martin back will perform from the series of works collectively named circulus, which have, at their focus, the use of audio signal recursion, or feedback, as the prima materia. this
particular permutation of circulus (faciat habere structuram) may be thought of as a series of (perhaps geological) abrasions which cause complex, feedback-activated, arcs of sonic
activity to manifest, mutate, and degenerate.
martin back + andrew blanton compose primarily for unusual instrumentation and fixed media which endeavor to define 'music' as a potential for the creation of novel situations for propagating, or investigating, sound worlds. both have created works for single and multi-channel video and live video performance using custom software, which have been exhibited in the states and internationally. andrew studied music performance at denver university while martin received his undergraduate degree from the moving image arts department at the college of santa fe where his mentors included gene youngblood and david stout. he has studied privately with composer and sound artist david dunn. andrew + martin are currently pursuing an mfa in new media at the university of north texas.
