Her pillar of chromed "Ideal Woman" forms that centers the exhibition is inspired by the Greek caryatid, at once dynamic as a sculptural presence, and yet, compelling as a contemporary progression of form that links the present mindset. The first 5 sections of the Caryatid were on view through the first three weeks of the exhibition, and as of today we've received the last two segments that take this monolithic form to the ceiling of the gallery.
The font used for the lettering in her text-based works is the artist's readjustment of "Accidents Grotesque," the precursor to "Helvetica," a popular modern font that was an attempt to make a more perfect font from its predecessor. The exhibition also introduces the artist's first use of neon, a material that continues to have strong associations to both the built environment and the high-realm of contemporary art. The combination is an unprecedented mix that confirms the artist's singular stature as an emerging artist of depth and vitality.
There is only one week left to see Allie's exquisitely conceived show at Plus Gallery, the show will conclude a week from Saturday, July 10th.
