A very rare treat for Contemporary art collectors, fans and artists is coming next week courtesy of the Denver Film Society and Starz Film Center. Those who follow film might have already heard of the documentary "Herb and Dorothy" which has been screening in NYC for a few weeks now and other select markets. The film opens next thursday July 16th at Starz for their doc night and will continue screening for a regular run. Why is this cause for celebration and your interest?
Not only is it rare to have a good documentary on the topic of contemporary art in general but it's far more rare to have one that focuses on collectors of art. Herb and Dorothy is simply an extraordinary story and portrayal of lives lived collecting art at an obsessive level......and not the kind where money is no object and done for investment purposes. The story of Herb and Dorothy is one of two compatible souls who put everything into their passion for art, and over the course of time managed to not only have a collection of major stature but to have not lost that soul in the process. No doubt other films will follow in the footsteps that filmmaker Megumi Sasaki delivers here but it is likely that none will be as genuine and extraordinary as Herb and Dorothy. We recommend it as essential viewing for anyone with even the slightest interest in art. It's also well crafted and will keep all viewers riveted the way a good documentary can throughout its duration, it really is a treat on many levels. For more information visit http://denverfilm.org
