Plus Gallery will reopen for the fall season next Thursday, September 15th. Please come join us that evening for the opening reception of "Unlearning the Differences," our third solo exhibition with Denver painter Robin Schaefer.
Schaefer has gradually built a formidable, sophisticated collection of works charged with symbolic content. Her latest collection builds upon the unusual dynamics set forth in her two previous exhibitions, one that enhances the scale and physical representation of everyday material and objects. Most of her carefully selected subject matter is inherently small and intricate in nature, the artist seeking a transformative experience of personal, spiritual significance. Schaefer isolates her material on canvas, stripping all superfluous information away in order to create a dark, enigmatic background, leaving just the subject itself to be illuminated through a bold sense of light with an ever expanding color range. This isolation is at the very core of the work, Schaefer exposing the sensation through the act of painting, becoming what she calls metaphors or "reminders" of life.
Come join us in celebrating Robin's current efforts and celebrate the start of the fall season with Plus. The evening will feature a special music performance by Ryan Stubbs of "Le Divorce" and "Everything Absent or Distorted" in his solo acoustic debut.
